Obituary of Charles O'Brien

Charles F.  O'Brien, 82, of Cherry Hill, passed peacefully at home October 12, 2018, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Elaine (nee D’Orlando). Devoted father of Christopher C. O'Brien (Debbie) of Oakford, PA, Thomas L. O'Brien of Voorhees, NJ, Cathleen Betz (Rick) of Denver, CO and Antoinette O’Brien of Runnemede, NJ.  Treasured “Pa” to Josh, Matthew, Sam, Christopher, Thomas, AnneMarie, Daniel, Sarah and Leah. Loving brother of Thomas J. O'Brien (Dee) of Springfield, IL and Margaret O'Brien-Murphy (Seamus Smith) of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his Grand Dog “Teddy”. Charles was the first child and great pride of the late Francis J. O’Brien and the late Mary Margaret “Peggy” O'Brien.

 

Growing up in Illinois, Mr. O'Brien attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Cathedral Boy's High School. He studied, participated in the ROTC program at Notre Dame University, and was graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He then pursued a Master’s Degree in Finance at Temple University. As a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, he served as Engineering Officer aboard the USS Witek, EDD 848, (a destroyer based in New London, CT), and also on the Battleship New Jersey.
 

Charles was a friend to everyone and, despite his many accomplishments; he believed his most cherished times to be those that he spent with his family. His viewing will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at Holy Eucharist Church, 344 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, 08034 where a Mass of Christian burial will follow immediately at 11:00AM. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 300 W. White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ 08009.
