Obituary of Father James Peter Rush

Father James Peter Rush, of Gibbsboro went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2016, at St Mary's Center, Cherry Hill at the age of 70. Beloved son of the late Paul and the late Pauline (nee Mellon) Rush. Devoted brother of Fr. Joseph P. Rush of Gibbsboro, Fr. Michael P. Rush of Ocean City, and Paul and his wife Olga Rush of Tucson, AZ. Loving uncle of Ingrid Rush of Phoenix, AZ and Michael and his wife Rebecca Rush of Haymarket, VA. Proud great-uncle of Gabriella Rush and Madelynne Rush. Fr. Jim was born in Phila., grew up in Gibbsboro when his family moved there in the early 1950's. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Berlin and Camden Catholic High School. He went to Mt. St. Paul College receiving a B.A. in Philosophy and received his M.A. in Theology from Christ the King Seminary at St Bonaventure. He was ordained May 19, 1972 at St Andrew the Apostle by Most Rev. George H. Guilfoyle. Fr. Jim had various assignments as Parochial Vicar starting at Sacred Heart, Vineland, Corpus Christi, Carney's Point, St. Peter Celestine, Cherry Hill, St Luke, Stratford, St John, Paulsboro and St John Neumann, Sicklerville. His first assignment as Pastor came in 1963 at St. Joan of Arc, Camden, Immaculate Conception, Bridgeton and Blessed Sacrament, Margate. In 2010, Fr. Jim was appointed Pastor Emeritus of Blessed Sacrament under the newly established parish of Holy Trinity, Margate. Fr. Jim retired in July of 2015 and with his health compromised he moved to St. Mary's Center, Cherry Hill. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday (7/18) 9 to10:45 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson- Gibbsboro Road, Gibbsboro where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will be private. Fr Jim's family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the House of Charity-Bishop's Annual Appeal, 631 Market Street, Camden, NJ 08102.
