Obituary of Dr. Michael V. Smith, Sr.

Smith, Dr. Michael V. Sr. Loving Husband, Dedicated Father, Respected Physician. Went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2008, surrounded by his family at the age of 63. Michael was born in Camden January 9, 1945 and grew up in Pennsauken. He graduated Camden Catholic H.S. in 1962, St Joseph's College in 1966 and earned his Medical Degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1972. Long time resident and doctor of Medford, he was a Board Certified Family Practice Physician who treated his patients with respect, dignity and compassion. Member of the Burlington Co. Osteopathic Medicine Assoc., the NJ Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Assoc. and American Osteopathic Assoc. and was a Board Member of the Physicians Alliance. Dr. Smith upheld, in every capacity, his Hippocratic Oath. A staunch supporter of the Traditional Latin Mass, he was integral in the formation of Mater Ecclesiae R. C. Church in Berlin and a member of the Parish Council. He was President of the Oblates of St. Jude, a charter and 4th Degree member of Mater Ecclesiae Council # 12833 Knights of Columbus. Michael was an accomplished chef and winemaker, specializing in Italian cuisine- he delighted in cooking Sunday meals for family and friends. He was a musician, writer and storyteller, his grandchildren were mesmerized and friends and family entertained whenever they would gather. Michael leaves behind his adoring wife Joan Marie (nee DiPietro) of 40 yrs. His sons Michael V. Jr. of Lake Placid, NY and Ronald V. of Merchantville. Daughters Jessica M. Moyer of Magnolia, DE, Jocelyn R. Smith of Charleston, SC and Justine M. Nichols of Medford. Grandchildren Michael V. III, Kaitlyn, Isobel, Lillian, Blaise, Jason, Talia and the late Steven. His mother Margaret Bramble of Voorhees and two his sisters Kathy Fodor of Liesuretown and Diane Dawson of Rancocas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday 7 to 9 pm and again Wednesday 9 to 10:30 am at Mater Ecclesiae Church, 261 Cross-Keys Road, Berlin, NJ 08009,where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Weds. Interment will be private. Michael's family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to Mater Ecclesiae Church at the above address.
