Sigmund J. Honrychs, Jr.
Sigmund J. Honrychs, Jr., of West Berlin NJ, passed away on January 16, 2022, at the age of 85. “Siggy”, also known as "Sonny", was the devoted husband of Maria T. Honrychs (nee Papaleo), beloved father of Denise A. Polichnowski (Richard) and the late Dr. Michael B. Honrychs DMD (surviving spouse Karen), cherished brother-in-law of Bernadette Marsella, and proud grandfather of Matthew, Devon and Dayna Honrychs. Dear son of the late Sigmund J., Sr. and the late Catherine (nee Sobol) Honrychs.
Sigmund graduated from the US Army War College and Thomas Edison State College. He then proudly served his country for over three decades in the New Jersey Army National Guard, where he held various positions on his way to commanding the 1st Battalion, 112th Field Artillery in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He retired in 1996 as a Colonel. Concurrent with his service, he worked as a supervisor for Bell Telephone.
In his retirement, Sigmund continued his active lifestyle. Whether it was weekend trips to the Jersey Shore with his grandchildren, filling the role of grill master at countless backyard BBQs, or attending mass as a faithful parishioner of St. Simon Stock/OLMC Church, Siggy lived life to the fullest. His interests included trading service stories, hosting holidays for family, crabbing down the shore, snowbirding to Florida, watching the Phillies, and eating Maria’s traditional Sunday brunches. He will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, January 24th from 11:00AM to 12:00-Noon at St. Simon Stock Parish/OLMC Church, 178 W. White Horse Pike Berlin, NJ 08009, where the funeral Mass will begin at 12:00-Noon. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Cherry Hill, NJ.
