Obituary of Robert Orem
Robert Orem, on February 25, 2021 age 81, of Kirkwood, NJ. Beloved husband of Kay Orem (nee Harvey). Dear father of Robert (Tracey) Orem and Reed (Megan) Orem. Loving grandfather of Caili, Ethan, Chloe, Kyra, and William Orem. Cherished brother of Nancy (Richard) Harvey, Muggsy O'Drain, and the late Harry Orem (surviving spouse Debbie). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bob grew up, went to high school (Woodrow Wilson High School), and worked in Camden his entire life. He raised his family and built a business there, later moving to Kirkwood.
He loved working on cars from when he was young and continued right up to the present. He opened his business “The Garage” in the late 60s and it has remained open to this day. In an industry that is based on trust, his customers were loyal to a man who was honest and fair. Customers frequently became friends and would stop by to talk a while (always with a coffee). Over the years, Bob had many people come through his garage for more than just service on their cars; he had multiple employees and apprentices, and even friends and neighbors who wanted to learn more about their vehicles.
You’d think he was a quiet man, that is, until you got him engaged in a conversation, then you couldn’t get away. He might be hesitant to join in at first, but once he started, the stories he would tell and the information he would have ready would reveal the depth of his thoughts.
Fishing was his big enjoyment, with both friends and family. He spent endless hours with his extended family teaching the younger ones to fish. After spending years camping in all seasons with his young family, he was proud to have been able to provide a vacation home on Lake Wallenpaupack.
Bob had a generous heart, which many people knew. To all those people who stopped at his garage to chat or with a coffee, his family will be forever grateful.
