Wednesday, July 17, 2019Due to the close relationship between our Moms and Dads, their siblings grew up almost as brothers and sisters. We spent many weekends in Tyrone overnighting with the Ieracis. On one particular Saturday night, Frank woke Junior and me to show us something more than just unique. With a flashlight partially covered, he showed us his brothers face on the top bunk, and behold, Phil was asleep with his eyes open! We thought we had absolutely witnessed the 11th wonder of the world! On another overnight, while playing in the street next to the train tracks, we heard a train coming. As it neared, Frank yelled "quick, get up on the porch." He and Phil did so, while Junior and I just well, kinda stood there. A moment or two after the engine passed, Junior and I began to see and feel the "rain" of tiny black cinders emanating from the smokestack! On many July fourth's, Frank's dad, Tony, invited all Scordo family members to celebrate the holiday with a big picnic and ballgame at their Alexandria home. That celebration continues today at Reservoir Park. A family reunion that has been held for over 50 continuous years! Before that, memories of meeting with Frank's family for many special picnics at Spruce Creek park are times never to be forgotten. My wife Peggy has often said that to her, the Ieraci family was unquestionably the nicest family she ever met. I still think of Frank, Phil and the twins, Liz and Sandy, as close to my family as my own. Frank will be missed, and we know his loss is a loss for all of us.
