Patricia Naughton Charter

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Patricia (Pat) Naughton Charter, 81, on August 29th, 2021 with family by her side in Sicklerville, New Jersey.

She was born November 20, 1939 in Witherbee, South Carolina. Her father was a career Officer in the Army and a WWII veteran. Subsequently, she lived in many places, including Germany, Canada, and several states. She met her husband of 60 years, Daniel Buell Charter Jr in Williamsburg, Virginia where she received a Bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary. They married in 1961. Her husband served as an officer in the United States Coast Guard and as a result, Pat lived in numerous places as an officer’s wife, including Virginia, Texas, Alabama, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Louisiana, and New Jersey.

Pat lived for the last 36 years in southern New Jersey, specifically Marlton where she was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Pat worked for H&R Block as well and later opened her own tax business, Charter Tax.

Pat was also active in the Greenbelt, Maryland Community for several years when she lived in Maryland. She was a Bluebird Mother for the Camp Fire Girls. Both Dan and Pat were active in the Greenbelt Community Church. In New Orleans, Pat was the Secretary for the Officer’s Wives’ Club and was responsible for their newsletter.

Most importantly, Pat was a wonderful wife, a loving mother, and a caring grandmother. She loved all creatures and instilled a sense of fairness and compassion in her children and grandchildren. She had an exceptionally gentle heart, with no room in it for hate or malice. She personified the rule, “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.” Despite having dementia, she retained her gentle nature until the end.

Pat is survived by her husband, Daniel Buell Charter; children Anne Marie Charter Grunberg and her husband Michael, Laura Charter Beckert and her husband Erv, Michelle Renee Charter LePage, Kelly Jeanine Charter, and Marhya Leilani (Lani) Charter King and her husband John; grandchildren Daniel Grunberg and his wife Christina, Michael Grunberg (Mischa), Christopher Grunberg and partner Melissa Delcid , Clara Beckert Breault and her husband Devyn Breault, Maria Beckert, John (JP) King, Justin King, MacKenzie LePage; Great grandchildren Elijah Lockes, Oliver Grunberg, and Silas Grunberg; and sisters Nancy Hooper and her husband Parker and Jane Weaver and her husband Charlie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mary Naughton.
