Obituary of Edward Lynd, Jr.

Edward J. "John" Lynd, Jr. passed away peaceful on January 6, 2017, at the age of 95.

Beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. ("Dot") Lynd (nee Templeton). Predeceased by his bothers Bruce and Charles ("Chick") and his sisters Dolores ("Dee") and Gloria. Loving father of Edward J. Lynd, III (Ann) of Tabernacle, NJ and Michael W. Lynd (Celeste) of Redwood City, CA. Devoted grandfather of Meredith Lynd Thrasher (David), Edward J. Lynd, IV (Cait) and Matthew Lynd.

A gifted musician, John's piano, organ, and guitar playing impressed, entertained and connected friends and family for many decades. He embodied the expression "hum a few bars and I'll fake it," characteristically in his favorite key of F#, earning him the nickname "Black Keys Eddie" among fellow musicians. His military service began in the U.S. Cavalry and transitioned with the outbreak of World War II as an Army artillery scout in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. He carried a guitar with his equipment as much as he could and lifted the spirits of many fellow soldiers with the music of back home.

A lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan, John was born and married in Philadelphia and raised a family in Pennsauken, NJ. He was a retired Wurlitzer music store manager who worked in Philadelphia, Cherry Hill, Neshaminy, and Plymouth Meeting stores. He and his wife Dot retired to the Fountains at Cedar Parke in Atco, NJ. With help from his long-time friend Ed Smith, John built a vacation home by hand in the Poconos.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, John's family request donation may be made in his memory to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Dr. Ste.300, Marlton NJ 08053 or Alzheimer's Assoc. of South Jersey, 3 Eves Dr. Ste. 310, Marlton, NJ 08053.
